Crane Runway & Rail

Evaluate Critical Welds

Critical Weld Areas of Runway Systems

Our runway division has the ability to perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) of critical weld areas of crane runway systems to ensure reliability & compliance with applicable industry standards. Possible problem areas which are prone to crack initiation & propagation, due to fatigue sensitivity, should be identified during runway inspections.

Our technicians will test for cracks in critical weld areas which generally include:

  • Runway tiebacks
  • Web stiffeners
  • Runway stools/nibs
  • Crane runway rail & clips welds (Depending on configuration)
  • Crane rail joints
  • Other welded attachments to the crane runway structure

NDT of critical welds on runway systems may consist of either Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) or Eddy Current Testing (ET). Typically, NDT of welded areas are not included in our crane runway inspection offering & may be recommended when signs of fatigue & cracks are identified during runway inspections.
